It Just So Happened is the story of how, against all odds, Darrick Lareva came through a series of amazing miracles to survive a horrendous car accident on the way home from Bible college for Christmas break. You will cry, and also rejoice, as you read through the narrative of miracles that occurred during his recovery. Here is an example: His mother needed to make many phone calls. She bought a prepaid calling card, but before she could use it, someone gave her one. Then someone gave her another and another and another. She never did use her calling card while she was in the hospital with Darrick.

It was a warm, sunny, Tuesday afternoon. I was waiting at the red light at a busy interchange when another motorcycle pulled up next to me, in the same lane, also now waiting to go home, or to a friend's house, or maybe shopping. The very next thing he did was watch me fly like a circus aerial act, bouncing off car roof tops, and sailing all the way across the huge intersection. With no prior intention, I was on my way to meet my maker and face up to the life that I had been living until then-all initiated by a drunk in an old, four-door sedan who had no plans on even slowing down. Resuscitated over and over on the asphalt, I was eventually rushed to the hospital, where my wife was repeatedly told that I would not be alive much longer. Not being a believer of that kind of talk, she took peace in her heart that I would survive to be with her and our two little boys. Now, having been comatose for two weeks, I awoke frightened and was told that I had little hope of much of a recovery. I was then confronted with Jesus himself, right there in that hospital room. What He asked me over and over at that point clarified my beliefs and gave me the confidence to continue on. I call that encounter a pure miracle and thank God that I was The DOA Who Made It!

This story is unusual but true--as told by eyewitnesses or by those whose lives overlapped those eyewitnesses. The story is about the lives of four generations of ancestors beginning in old Europe and then coming to America in the 1800s with a wave of other immigrants. They moved westward, lured by the promises of homesteads. They became the last of the pioneers as they reached the wilderness frontiers of Canada in the far West. They had been held back by the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression but then escaped to something better in California. These family lines were linked by a trusted belief system that informed them and gave them hope. There was an unpredictable series of good things and bad things that happened to them on a daily basis. Their Christian worldview and trust in God saw them through these many struggles. Keith E. Andersen was born in Alberta, Canada, in 1932. He graduated from high school in Kelseyville, California, in 1949. He then served four years in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Masters Degree, together with teaching and school administration credentials. He taught in the public schools for five years before serving as school principle for thirteen years. He served as Assistant Superintendent until retiring in 1990. He served for more than thirty years in public education. The author has served in his local church for over fifty years as adult Bible teacher, elder, deacon, and other roles. He is active in the distribution of bibles through Gideons International. The author and his wife of 58 years live in Napa, California and have four adult children and six grandchildren.

A woman with three loves and a son with three fathers: a universal story of passion and personal destiny by the award-winning author of A Pigeon and a Boy. When the mysterious Judith arrives in a small agricultural village in Palestine in the 1930s, she attracts attention of three men: Moshe, a widowed farmer; Globerman, a wealthy cattle dealer; and Jacob, who loses his wife—the most beautiful woman in the village—because of his obsession with Judith, who insists on living in a cowshed rather than settling down with any of her admirers. When she gives birth to Zayde, all three suitors consider him their son, and Zayde, who tragically loses Judith, imbibes their triple wisdom and their distinct versions of his origins. As Zayde pieces together the beguiling story of the singular woman who was his mother, Meir Shalev weaves a magical novel of the joys and secrets of village life, of an unconventional family, and the unexpected fruits of love.

Nobody ever reads this part of the book. Somebody at the publishing house explained to me that it's actually called the book flap. That sounded dirty, so I giggled for three hours. But it says in my contract that I have to write something over here in this tiny space, even though I don't think anyone will notice. Some people might open up to the middle of the book and start flipping through pages, but nobody will read this part. In fact, I'll bet anything that you're not reading this part now. And if it turns out that you are . . . well, the guy in the bookstore is probably staring at you, saying, "Stop reading that book!" I guess there's a reason bookstores are going out of business, left and right. Cheap fucks like you think it's okay to stand in the aisles and read to your heart's content. So for the sake of bookstores everywhere, buy this fucking book. I myself don't care. I only care about the poor working man. Oh, and the sanctity of the written word. I care about that, too. And in my case, those written words, of course, include fuck, dick, and pussy.
